Voicethread

by Dr. Nellie Deutsch

A picture is worth more than a thousands words when you combine words and sound. Photos are a wonderful way for people to connect. Adding voice, sound (music), and text to photos and images may be an even greater way to enhance the connection. Voicethread has come up with a way to share and discuss photos by voice and/or text. Voicethread is a great way for participants to introduce themselves by adding photos of their profiles, homes, favorite spots, workplace, areas of interests, hobbies, cover of favorite books, favorite photos, favorite people, friends and so on. The best way to learn about voicethread is to use it.

Awesome…it looks really easy to use and understand. What a great concept for using multimedia and for sharing ideas with others.

One of my professors used Voice Thread in one of our classes. It was then in turn used by each student for their class presentations rather than the use of PowerPoint. It was an interesting blend of multimedia assets in everyones presentations as they had the ability to leave notes next to the slides, have audio is places where they didn't want to speak in person in front of the classroom and last but not least added video of them talking about their slides. Also they used video in place of the slides and had a themselves in a video pop-up talking about the slide.
It became a great multimedia presentation tool.

The thread of my gratitude is yet to get woven into the voice thread. I have caught the Snapvine. I have the song in mind " To everything, turn, turn, turn/ There is a season turn, turn, turn …. ". I know, you cannot hear it now. But hope to get back soon with a song for you all to celebrate the re-creation of God's plenty with God's bounty scattered over these pages… .

Thank you for introducing me to voice thread. I can imagine many ways that this tool would be useful, especially uniting those connecting solely through the internet.

I think this would be a great tool in schools for so many applications. The first that jumps out at me is hooking to classrooms up from different parts of the country/world and having students comment on the same pictures. Great way to contrast differing perspectives and experiences. Digital storytelling for the younger grades (pre reading writing) would also be great. Drawing a storyboard and then narrating your own story. Do you think there will ever be an export function so that these creations could be put on a DVD?

If you sign up for a personal account (PRO version) you can export whole voicethreads as movies and burn them to a DVD. Look deeper into the site and you'll see this new feature.

Is this just a screen capture? I can't seem to activate it so I can make a comment… I'm hoping this system is going to support these kinds of widgets so we can have lively interaction with students.

Is it just not ready yet… or is there something wrong with MY system?
