It is said that English is the hardest language for non-native speakers to learn because we break so many of our own grammatical rules.

    Nonsense. English is far easier than Chinese. Grammar alone does not make a language difficult.

    Mike – perhaps “master” would be a better choice then “learn”. Interesting position you’re taking though, why not start a debate on the topic?

    I only know 3 kinds of languages: Chinese, English and Japanese, and I found the most difficult one for me is Japanese. English and Chinese grammars exhibit same order: Subjet(S), Verb(V), and Object(O) but Japanese is S-O-V word order and very complicated. For me all languages have their hard part but when I got into it I was so touching by the beauty of the literature and civilization, it doesn’t matter English, Chinese or …
